One of the most common misconceptions about car packaging is that they can damage your paint. Here’s why you shouldn’t believe it!

No, car wrap won’t damage the paint

There are some exceptions, which we’ll get to later, but let’s start by saying that this is basically a myth. In general, automotive plastic wrap will not damage the paint. In fact, the opposite is true.

Vinyl packaging won’t damage the paint; They color them. This is one of the unexpected benefits of packaging for many people. Most people are attracted to vehicle packaging because of their appearance. Or, they may be looking for an affordable and effective way to advertise their business. While packaging is great for both purposes, you’re bound to get extra satisfaction knowing that your paint has an extra layer of protection against damage.

When you remove the packaging, you’ll be happy to see that your paint is as pure as the day you installed it.

Exception: A bad paint job

We must address the one exception to this rule: a bad paint job. In almost all cases where car packaging “damages” the paint, this is due to the quality of the paint, not the packaging.

When vinyl packaging is tested, they use vehicles that are fresh from the factory as test subjects. This doesn’t mean your car has to be in brand new packaging. However, if it has been repainted, then it must be done professionally and with high quality paint.

One of the problems that low quality paint is prone to is that it doesn’t bond properly with the vehicle. This makes it easier to lift when removing the packaging.

Cases of vinyl film destroying vehicle paint are quite rare and we must stress this again, always due to poor quality paint. But don’t let that dissuade you from packing your vehicle. Your paint is not of high quality to begin with, so you should redo it anyway.
