How to Protect Your Car Wrap from Fading

Dec 19, 2022

3 Ways to Keep Your Car Wrap from Fading

The following actions will prolong the life of your car wrap and minimize the risk of fading over time:

1. Avoid Prolonged Exposure to the Sun

Prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight is one of the leading causes of fading. While parking in a garage, carport, or other covered area will minimize the amount of sunlight your vehicle receives, this is not always an option for everyone. If you typically park in an open area at home like the side of the road or a parking lot at work, your vehicle wrap may be at a greater risk of fading as these locations offer no protection against sunlight. That is why it is best to look for partially covered areas whenever possible, as a bit of shade can drastically reduce the amount of sunlight your car is exposed to throughout the day.

2. Wash Your Car Regularly

Regularly washing your car by hand is the best way to minimize the risk of various forms of damage. Allowing dirt, dust, tree sap, bird droppings, or insect stains to bake onto your wrap can make them extremely difficult to remove. If these substances are left on your wrap, they can cause fading, rips, and other damage, resulting in repair or replacement costs.

3. Choose the Right Installer

Cheap vinyl and improper installation are two of the leading causes of fading and other forms of damage for car wraps. When choosing a vehicle wrap, be sure to select an installer that has a proven track record and uses quality UV-resistant vinyl. This will help reduce the chance of fading over time and ensure that your wrap lasts longer with proper care.
